Leaving home again 29/04/2010
![]() The concept of home and where do i call "home" has been playing on my mind. I looked up the definition of home and among many things the first thing it said was - the place where a person (or family) lives; one's dwelling place; specif - but if one lives in many places does this mean one has many homes with duplicate furniture, books, kitchen appliances etc. After spending about 4months in one of my many homes, i feel attached to the community, the health food shop on the corner and the cafe which serves the best LSD (Latte Soy Dandy) around. I know this place will be here when i return and there are many exciting adventures to be had but Byron definitely has sucked me in and tucked me in tight! To be somewhere and feel your heart open as it sings with joy, to share a spontaneous and inspiring conversation with a stranger and most of all to feel apart of something larger then life itself, to me that is a definition of home. So today is our last full day here at the most easterly point in Australia, last night we had a fire under the Scorpio full moon, with the stars twinkling down upon us i find myself being nostalgic and really looking forward to coming here again and seeing the stars. As our travels continue around the globe i take pieces of each place and keep them close so when the time comes to be still i can unpack and fill my surroundings with my many homes so the memories, experiences and lessons stay with me, for ever. ![]() Being offered the opportunity to assist Shiva in India was a true blessing. The 10 day retreat/ teacher training consisted of being initiated into Kalari and experiencing 6 early mornings of Kalari practice or Kalarippayattu which is the only form of the most ancient traditional systems of physical, culture, self-defence and martial techniques still in existence. Our Kalari practice was done inside on a red earth floor which transformed the sols of our feet to a deep earthy colour. With lectures during the day in Ayurveda by local doctors, chanting, taking care of your alter with Shiva Kumar and witnessing a Naga Shakti puja where a young village boy went into a trance and allowed Naga (Snake/ Kundalini) to enter him, very profound! Once again the bright welcoming smiles of Kerala captured my heart and i felt right at home, meeting others from different parts of the globe, being united by the love of Yoga and adventure. We spent a full day and journeyed to the very southerly tip of India, Kanyakumari where the three water-bodies - the Arabian Sea, the Guld of Mannar and the Indian Ocean meet here there is also the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in honour of the great spiritual teacher Swami Vivekananda. There are many stories related to this spot such as a Hindu legend, Lord Hanuman dropped a piece of earth as he was carrying a mountain with his life-saving herb, from the Himalayas to Sri Lanka during the Rama-Ravana war. With a combination of 35 - 40 degree heat days, Yoga, Kalari and assisting theses days were full, inspiring and very cleansing. Each time i experience a class with Shiva she always has new Vinyasa to share which makes me realise how deep, vast and wide the journey through really Yoga is. Landing back in Australia i can feel the season has started to shift so its time to make the most of now before its time to move on and follow the sun. | DelamayA journey with the rhythm of Yoga and Dance..
