Asian Groove 01/12/2009
![]() Stepping off the plane in Singapore, everything looked so modern and clean. There is a huge Chinese influence here but also a lot of Hindu temples and Christian churches. We ate at some great vegetarian restaurants and ventured to the "beach" island called Sentosa, this place is incredible it has a huge Merlion statue, an imaginary creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish/ mermaid. The fish body comes from Singapore's ancient name Temasek meaning "sea town" in Javanese back when it was a fishing village and the lion head represents Singapore's original name Singapura meaning "lion city" or "kota singa". Around the Merlion was a Gaudi inspired walk with water flowing through it. From Singapore we traveled for 5 hours to Malaysia, as soon as we crossed the boarder the landscape turned very green and lush. We stayed in Kuala Lumpur for 1 night, the mall at Time Square is MASSIVE! It even has a full size roller coaster on the top floor, the vibe is like being in a busy loud and Chaotic Asian market outside but its all in doors. We were up at 4am for our flight to the Philippines, Air Asia was pretty good, one of the better cheap airlines i have been on. We landed at Clark Air Base which is west of Angeles City, this place makes its tourist $ by catering to western men who retire here and spend their days drinking and their nights at strip clubs and bars, most seem to have a beautiful young Filipino or 2 in tow. I didnt see any other western women there either, our lonely planet travel guide recommended not to come here as well! But it was the better option then landing in Manila. Early the next morning we caught the first bus out of town and headed north to La Union province and back to the beach. The picture of Garuda is to help remind us all of courage and honesty even when you are surrounded by a raging inferno. Add Comment Re connecting with Brighton 24/11/2009
![]() Flying into Heathrow airport just on dusk was beautiful, all the lights of London were shimmering with a golden glow, there was no smog just a small haze of mist and the sun was moments away from breaking over the horizon. On the ground it had started to rain and as the greyness set in i felt goosebumps on my skin, layering on my arm warmers, scarf, jacket and hat my beach life in Puerto Rico felt like life times away.. Catching the train to Brighton felt perfect, catching up with good friends who i now call my family and re connecting with the Yoga Tribe at Natural Bodies during the Friday night workshop. The workshop was deep and i felt the attendees open up in many ways physically and emotionally. There were a few tears throughout as people surrendered to their bodies releasing that which did not serve them any more and make way for the new to blossom. My wish for people who come to my classes and workshops is for them to take away with them exactly what they need for their journey as they depart out the door continuing on their path. Dallas Yoga vibe 16/11/2009
![]() It took a while to adjust to the vibe in Dallas after being in Puerto Rico for so long! Its so spread out and nothing is in walking distance so most of the time is spent in a car. People's life here on first impression seems to revolve around shopping and eating fast food. There are drive through ATM bank machines, chemists and food so its catered for a lifestyle of not even leaving your car! The first week was spent at the studio in the club house where we were staying, doing yoga every day, deepening the practice of self exploration in back bends and getting material together for my the workshop i am teaching on the 20th. The second week i re connected with Kate who is also in town, she introduced me to Leanne Hall who teaches full time in Dallas and has such a beautiful way of expressing and teaching yoga. We all had lunch together which really felt like a gathering of old friends, uniting over good food and inspiring conversation! I attended a workshop with Wade Morissette which was a sweaty vinyasa practice for 2 days, i really appreciate experiencing other teaches who are on the same path but with a different way of expressing the flow. Omshanti for now as i shift my energy into the next part of this adventure! Yoga, Rhythm & Dance! in Puerto Rico 03/11/2009
![]() A two part workshop, Yoga, Rhythm & Dance! facilitated by myself and Glenisse, a local Puerto Rican who lives and teaches in San Juan, she is the hostess with the mostess! Her spare room became our room during the weeks on this beautiful Caribbean Island. Our workshop was at Glen's place starting on the monday night with Chakra Vinyasa and ending on the wednesday night with liberating yoga movement off the mat and body percussion! The Puerto Rican yoga tribe who came were very receptive and willing to try out the new experiences which we presented to them. Together we took our bodies through the motion of sequences to the energy centres, with the heat of the night the sweat began to pour - cleansing, revitalising and making space for the new! Moving off the mat for most was a new experience, i taught them a traveling surya namaskar and a few other sequences which have come through my own practice and experimentation of fusing yoga and dance. The body percussion was a combination of shrikes of delight and confusion. When the mind steps in, it makes you think you have it but it trips you up and kicks you out of sync, watching instinctively and joining in when the beat starts again. | DelamayA journey with the rhythm of Yoga and Dance..
