Yoga, Rhythm & Dance! in Puerto Rico 03/11/2009
![]() A two part workshop, Yoga, Rhythm & Dance! facilitated by myself and Glenisse, a local Puerto Rican who lives and teaches in San Juan, she is the hostess with the mostess! Her spare room became our room during the weeks on this beautiful Caribbean Island. Our workshop was at Glen's place starting on the monday night with Chakra Vinyasa and ending on the wednesday night with liberating yoga movement off the mat and body percussion! The Puerto Rican yoga tribe who came were very receptive and willing to try out the new experiences which we presented to them. Together we took our bodies through the motion of sequences to the energy centres, with the heat of the night the sweat began to pour - cleansing, revitalising and making space for the new! Moving off the mat for most was a new experience, i taught them a traveling surya namaskar and a few other sequences which have come through my own practice and experimentation of fusing yoga and dance. The body percussion was a combination of shrikes of delight and confusion. When the mind steps in, it makes you think you have it but it trips you up and kicks you out of sync, watching instinctively and joining in when the beat starts again.
